The organization: New York City Outward Bound Schools promotes equitable, immersive, and joyful learning in more than 70 NYC public schools. One way they articulate their approach is as “Adventurous Learning” — daring exploration, real-world engagement, and meaningful challenge — whether in school, local communities or the outdoors.

The change: New York City Public Schools is adopting Portrait of a Graduate, a statewide educational framework rooted in culturally responsive sustaining education. New York City Outward Bound Schools has been developing these attributes and competencies in students for almost 30 years with an “adventurous learning” approach. Visual storytelling and resources that show adventurous learning in action will help stakeholders coalesce around common goals.

The story: Foreword Motion alongside Multipotent provides strategic consulting and content creation, currently focused on Adventurous and Deeper Learning in New York City Public Schools. Recent products include case studies, a multimedia toolkit, a short video showing Adventurous Learning in action, and a video series showing Deeper Learning in Action.
These products are used for coaching and professional learning, events, communications, and development.
