The organization: One Word at a Time sparks middle-grade students’ motivation to read and write on their own. Author Study is an interactive, virtual author visit series that brings Kwame Alexander and other notable authors into classrooms throughout the school year.

The change: Research shows only 1 in 8 13-year-olds read for pleasure, and that reading for pleasure leads to increased academic achievement, sharper critical thinking skills, deeper empathy, and stronger mental health. Author Study makes virtual author visits easy, affordable, ongoing, and fun. It supports literacy learning goals and celebrates the power of words and individual expression.

The story: Foreword Motion consults with OWAAT to amplify Author’s Study and increase access by making video content available on a YouTube channel and social media.
