MULTIMEDIA TOOLKIT DESIGN

The organization: New York City Outward Bound Schoolspromotes adventurous learning in more than 70 NYC public schools. Their work is grounded in the understanding that social, emotional and academic development (SEAD) are innately interconnected to support young people to thrive.

The change: Educators aren’t often given space in classrooms to process their own stories and emotions. Yet, in order for educators to foster SEAD competencies in students, they need their own opportunities for story sharing and reflection built into the continuous improvement work in which they regularly engage.

The story: Foreword Motion created Crew Stories, a multimedia toolkit to develop SEAD competencies in both educators and students through a story sharing approach. The toolkit is aligned to the organization’s theory of action work and contains documentary video case stories from NYC schools along with prompts and protocols to process the stories and apply them to continuously improving practice.

Katie is so super creative, thoughtful and a convener of brilliant people! She sought out feedback at every step, incorporated it, and kept our org's big picture in mind. Everyone at our org who has worked with Katie shares that she is easy to work with, a strong listener, able to synthesize feedback, and build final products that are thoughtful, useful and aesthetically pleasing! Having a brilliant tool that we can use along with the videos is so useful for calibration of coach practice and schools having a shared experience. This exceeded my vision for the work - and not just in content, but in terms of the quality of the final product. We are so lucky to work with Foreword Motion!
