NARRATIVE CONSULTING

The organization: UPLAN (United Parent Leaders Action Network)convenes parent leaders and groups nationally to share the best of leadership development and organizing. They engage parents who are often left out of decision-making tables and fight for policies such as equitable access to child care, parent engagement, and immigrant family protection. UPLAN represents 36 parent-led organizations and reach over 700,000 families each year.

The change: Funded by Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and in partnership with 4 parent leadership organizations across the country, UPLAN is collecting a “trove” of stories about barriers to and and advocacy for Early Childhood Education and Care (ECE). The stories will be used for amplification, contributing a more nuanced narrative to the field, and qualitative research for future campaigns.

The story: Foreword Motion provides strategic consulting to UPLAN’s communication manager and the communication leads at the partner organizations. This involves developing and facilitating training on ethical storytelling, feedback on stories, facilitation of peer learning sessions, creation of a “story matrix”, and strategy for future project phases.
